Ford launches employee pricing clearance saleAmy Wilson Automotive News November 18, 2008 - 11:07 am ET
DETROIT -- Ford Motor Co., said today it is bringing back employee pricing for its year-end clearance sale beginning tomorrow. In addition to the employee discounts, customers will get incentives, including cash rebates or 0 percent financing for certain Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles that Ford is labeling as most fuel-efficient. The Employee Pricing Plus sale runs through Jan. 5. It will be offered on most 2008 and 2009 Ford, Lincoln and Mercury models. Extra cash rebates are as much as $6,000. On nine nameplates, customers can choose 0 percent financing for 36 months instead of the rebate. "Ford is bullish on fuel economy," Ken Czubay, Ford vice president of sales and marketing, said in a statement. "We want to provide customers an extra reason to drive" one of Ford's fuel-efficient models. The nine models are not necessarily Ford's highest mpg vehicles but a selection of nameplates across its car, light truck and crossover lines. For instance, Ford is including the 2009 F-150 as part of the fuel-efficiency promotion, even though the pickup's best-case fuel rating of up to 21 mpg does not make it one the company's nine most fuel-efficient models. The 2009 F-150 is not part of the employee pricing sale but is eligible for the special financing. The other vehicles Ford is including in its fuel-efficiency financing promotion are: the Ford Focus and Fusion cars, Escape and Flex crossovers; Mercury Milan car and Mariner crossover; and Lincoln MKZ and MKS cars. Ford Motor Credit Co. is offering an additional $500 incentive on most Ford, Lincoln and Mercury models. Under the year-end sale, a 2009 Focus that stickers at $16,505 would have a bottom-line price of $13,649 with the rebate. Or it would cost $14,649 with the 0 percent financing option. In addition to the 2009 F-150, the following vehicles are excluded from the Employee Pricing Plus sale: 2008 and 2009 Escape and Mariner hybrids; 2008 and 2009 Shelby GT500, F-series chassis cab models and E-series cutaway models.
